Wimdu…Would Do…Did Do
This was prompted by Housetrip posting a link for the best places to see the Northern Lights as it reminded me of a post I started back in January and didn’t get round to finishing or posting…tardy I know!
However, here it is now…
Fancy a trip to Cologne? Ooo OK
Question from The Bloke and subsequent retort from me.
“I’m driving across, fancy joining me?” he says, whilst I run off to pack my bag!
It’s not technically a holiday, I will be doing more or less what I do back in the UK just from a different location and this time it being the lovely city of Cologne.
I was informed of the budget we were working with…easy peasy I say. And it was.
To be honest hotel rates were pretty good as it was only a week into the New Year but given I would be working from where we are staying we looked at the alternatives…short stay apartment rental.
Jumping on the net, I came across a few short stay rental sites, Wimdu & Housetrip being the two that stood out and was amazed at a) the quality of the accommodation on offer and b) the affordability.
And to be honest with you it was as simple as that. We emailed the owner about the dates we required, we had a quick response back and it was booked, just like that. Yep, that was our apartment pictured on the right and the best thing about it? Get this, it was £64 per night…BARGAIN.
Before we left we’d had a message from the owners to call them when we were about 20 mins away in case we needed directions in. Turned out, we found it OK.
Our testimonial:
This is a great apartment. We were greeted by Dagmar and her husband and were given a wonderful welcome and shown everything that we would possibly need to know. There was a local guide in English that explained the transport system, restaurants, bars and shops. The apartment was spotlessly clean and great for a family (Playstation included !!).
All I can say, it that if you want to enjoy your travels more as a local and less as a tourist then I recommend using either site, go and check them out.
