#AlivetoDrive project created by @Overdrive_UK for @KartForce
Alive to Drive project created by Overdrive-UK
Overdrive Productions have set up a WeFund project to produce a 1 hour documentary film following Kart Force, a team of wounded soldiers as they set out on a new world record attempt for longest distance driven in a kart with hand controls in 24 hours, to be set in Middlesborough in July 2012.
Behind each of the characters is an incredible story of bravery, loss and willpower.
The record ‘for the longest distance driven in a kart with hand controls’ is a difficult task for anyone who is not familiar with the world of karting. To these military men, it means so much more – it’s about overcoming grief and always finding the positive in life.

Dave Player, the founder of the Kart Force team is a former royal engineer who has been in a wheelchair following a spinal chord injury. Driven by his passion for racing and engineering, he has invented a set of innovative hand controls for karts that enables disabled drivers to compete alongside able-bodied drivers.
The team of drivers are:
Trooper Steve Shine, who was hit by a roadside bomb while driving a tank in Iraq, which caused him to lose one of his legs and badly injure the other. Undeterred, Trooper Shine returned to duty and has since completed another tour of duty in Afghanistan
Lance Corporal Martyn Compton served with the Household Cavalry. An RPG attack set his vehicle ablaze whilst on patrol in Afghanistan, leaving Martyn with 70% burns. Having survived the fire, he was then shot twice whilst being rescued. He has overcome all fears that he would never walk again and will carry the Olympic torch this year.
Corporal Ricky Furgusson MC served in Afghanistan when members of his platoon were injured by Taliban booby trap bombs. Whilst rescuing his comrades, he was badly injured, resulting in the loss of both of his legs and one of his eyes. He was subsequently awarded the Military Cross for his bravery.
Private Mark Allen of the Royal Anglian Regiment was on foot patrol in Afghanistan when an IED caused the loss of his legs and injuries to his fingers. Like the other drivers, he’s determined to prove that anything is possible and has also been scuba diving and skiing as part of his rehabilitation.
Team Overdrive specialise in filming motorsports. We have the team and the expertise to create a documentary that tells the story of an amibtious karting record attempt and the brave people behind it, but we need your contribution to fund this project.
The money from WeFund will pay for the production costs of the documentary including transportation and logistics as we follow the team around the UK.
The money will also pay for extra equipment so that we can produce continuous film footage as evidence for entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. Making this record attempt is an enormous personal achievement for the drivers but their story will also inspire all of us.
Help bring this moving story to the world.
