Well, I headed off to The Ship in Wandsworth for the #ScotchEggChallenge for ZoneOneRadio. Chefs competed from all over the country for this coveted title.

In this podcast you can find out about the history of the scotch egg from inventors of the snack, Fortnum & Mason, the number of scotch eggs produced at Heston Blumental’s pub in Bray, The Hinds Head with Head Chef Kevin Love.

Hear from judge & award winning chef Shaun Hill of The Walnut Tree on the quality of the entrants and what eating so many eggs may do to you!

Listen to an excitable Great British Menu judge Oliver Peyton of Peyton and Byrne on why he thinks that scotch eggs are on equal terms as foie gras and Roquefort plus Dan and Tom from Duck & Waffle the newly opened restaurant in the sky, on the merits of kedgeree.

Also on the menu are journalist and co-founder of the challenge David Constable and finally, of course the winner, chef Kiren Puri from The Bladebone Inn, Bucklebury in Berkshire with his truffled ham, egg & chips scotch egg.

The mission is to locate the very best Scotch egg in the land. From pub to club to restaurant and bar, in butchers, delicatessens and supermarkets, restaurants, outlets and food clubs. I am on a mission and am forever eggsploring.
