A Week in #Bosnia | Day One – Arrival, Cevapi and Rakija @ExcitingBosnia
Day One – Arrival, Cevapi and Rakija
To get to North west Bosnia, it is easier to get there by flying to Zagreb airport. Both Croatia Airlines via Heathrow and Easyjet via Gatwick fly direct to Zagreb.
On arrival we were picked up to travel the two hour journey to Cardacani, a small hamlet about 30 miles north of Banja Luka, the third biggest city in Bosnia.
Your transit will take you through the Croatian/Bosnian check point at Gradiska. Once through, it’s plain sailing and a cold beer at your destination awaits you.
That’s the boring ‘how to get there’ bit over.
Our New Home
We arrive in Cardacani and our home for the next week is idyllic. A two bedroom apartment with a fantastic outside dining area over looking the grounds of fruit trees and vegetables growing in the garden and the only thing you can hear is the occasional trundle of a tractor up the adjacent lane…bliss.
First things first, we have a beer and then head into Banja Luka for our first taste of a cevap at Čevabdžinica Kod Muje.
Here is my host asking what I think of the Banja Luka cevap:
We finish off the evening with a few rakija back in Cardacani, then it’s time for bed. Long day, sated from cevap, wine and rakija we retire in preparation for the next day…traditional pig roast amongst other things.
